U11 & U12 DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

“GOLDEN AGE OF LEARNING”

The regional development program is designed to teach the players and the coaches the game at a technical degree that is beyond the regular house program.  The objective is to keep the game FUN for the players within a positive and challenging learning environment.  Coaches, parents and players will be introduced to the roles and responsibilities of the Development and Rep program structure.  For 2011 this regional program will allow coaches and players to develop alongside players and coaches from Thompson Okanagan BCSA Districts which includes Kelowna, Penticton, Salmon Arm, Kamloops and Revelstoke.

The Development program begins at the September Evaluation Camps by identifying the player who shows the desire to play the game at the next level up from the NOYSA house program and has the ability and commitment to fulfill the training and game schedule.  It is also important for the parents to understand the investment of time involved to ensure their player is able to attend all games and practices, both indoors and outdoors.

SEASON

The training for the U11 program begins indoor in January and goes to mid-March.  All Vernon United Development and Rep players train once a week. The U11 program will train Thursdays for the girls and Fridays for the boys at the VantageOne Indoor Soccer Centre from 4:30 – 5:45 PM. Head coaches Dave Broadhurst and Claire Paterson along with team coaches will deliver the indoor curriculum.

The outdoor training season begins mid-March with twice per week practices on Mondays and Wednesday at 4:30 at Marshall Field. The Thompson Okanagan Jamboree season is April to the end of June. Players will travel to “jamborees” being held on Sundays throughout the Thompson Okanagan.

This is a non-results based program - no scores or league standings are recorded as part of the development philosophy.

COMMITMENT

Yes, there is a greater level of commitment than in the house program!

Players are expected to attend the majority of the indoor training sessions and all practices and games during the regular season starting in April.  ALL PARENTS ARE EXPECTED TO VOLUNTEER FOR TEAM DUTIES.

COST

To Be Announced.  Approximately $195.00 for both the indoor and outdoor season.  The registration fee includes year round BCSA insurance coverage for players and team staff, field, referee and administration costs incurred during the season as well as the coaching and facility rental fees for the winter training sessions.

QUESTIONS?

There are always lots of questions about joining a development / rep team so if your concerns are not addressed at the Fall team meeting please feel free to email the office.  There are standard costs that all players pay but teams do have the right to secure sponsorship and to fundraise to offset these costs.

FAQ:  CAN I STILL PLAY ANOTHER SPORT?

For players with rep and development soccer aspirations the season beginning in April to the end of June must be focused on soccer.  During the winter months there are NOYSA indoor training programs offered to all players in our rep program that players are recommended to attend at least 80%.  If time management with other program committments conflict with soccer practices and/or games please discuss options with the Program Head Coach.

 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PATH IN VERNON

U13 to U18  teams in the Rep program compete in the Thompson Okanagan Youth Soccer league (TOYSL) that consists of Provincial teams from Penticton (SOYSA), Kelowna (COYSA), Salmon Arm (SYSA), Kamloops (KYSA) and Vernon (NOYSA).  League play starts in April to the third week in June.  The teams in the Thompson Okanagan playdown the third week in June (TOYSL Cup) and the winner from the region attends the BC Soccer Provincial B Cup the first week in July.

Players are selected for the rep teams at evaluations held in October 2011.
