Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register my child for soccer?
If your child has been registered in the past you will receive a mailed out registration form. Please fill it in and mail back to NOYSA. If you are a new player you can go to Sun Valley Source for Sports and register.  You must bring a photocopy of the player's care card with the birthdate legible.  Only cheque or money order are accepted.

When and where do they practice and play?
There will be one mass practice/game session scheduled for every second week for U4 to U7. Sessions will be be coached by a NOYSA Head Coach and student coaches. 

There will be practices set for once per week and games set for once per week for U8 to U14/15.  The U18 age group will have a game scheduled once per week and coaches will set a time and place if there is interest in regular practices. NOYSA has a mini jamboree and divisional Vernon Cup for all recreational players.Sessions for U4 to U8 will be held at MacDonald Park. Game for U9 & U10 will be held at Creekside Park with practices scheduled at a variety of elementary schools. Most U11 and older teams will play at Marshall field with practices at elementary and secondary schools.

What equipment will my child need?
NOYSA will supply an UMBRO jersey for all recreational players.Players will need to purchase black soccer shorts and black soccer socks.  Shinguards and proper soccer foot wear are mandatory.  A water bottle is recommended.

What if my child decides not to play?
A refund of the total amount paid minus a $25 administration fee will be given if the player has not played one game. If games have been played a partial refund will be pro rated calculating in the administrator fee of $25.00 and the number of games played.

How do I know what team my child is on?
NOYSA does not mail any information regarding your child's team to you. You will get a phone call from your child's coach in early April. Due to Spring Break, and the condition of the fields many coaches may not start practices till a week before the season starts. Please note the start date can and will change based on when Vernon Parks and Recreation open the fields.

What if my child gets injured?
If the injury is serious enough to warrant a visit to a medical clinic, contact the soccer office for insurance forms to fill out or visit the BC Soccer website www.bcsoccer.net and click on forms and then insurance to access a copy.

What if it rains?
For the most part all games are played in the rain.  In the event there is heavy rainfall over an extended period the Vernon Parks and Rec. department may decide to close the fields.  Notice will be on both radio stations by 4pm.

Is there a family rate?
Yes there is the maximum for a family playing in mini and divisional. This does not include the rep program. The maximum rate a family rate is $275.00.

What is the registration fee?

           Players born in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 the fee is $85.00

           Players born in 1998 /1999 the fee is $100.00 

           Players born in 1997 to 1990 the fee is $125.00

           Rep fee for the 2008 season is $200.00

           U11 & U12 Development player fees is $160.00.

           A late fee of $20.00 will be charged after the February 28 deadline.

Can my child play in an older (or younger) age group?
Your child must play in the age group set by NOYSA. This is as per BC Soccer rules. There is only exceptions at the older age group where a rep player may return to recreational and request to play up a year.

Can I make a carpooling request?
Yes. One carpooling request can be made and must be written on the registration form.  The request must match the request on the person's registration form you are requesting to be with.

Does NOYSA offer any Summer Camps?
NOYSA Head Coach Andy Waughman offers summer soccer camps that are promoted by NOYSA.  Registration forms with costs and times will be provided at May Team Picture Day or can be picked up at the NOYSA office.

Who referees the games?
For U7 & U8 each coach is asked to referee half the game. From U9 and up NOYSA will provide youth referees. Please refer to our Zero Tolerance Policy.

What can I do to help out?
NOYSA is a volunteer organization, so VOLUNTEER! Youth sports leagues cannot exist without assistance from parents, and the North Okanagan Youth Soccer League is no exception. There are many jobs that need to be done. Some require very little time, others a substantial commitment.
